Console Wars

Remember the console wars? I do. Nothing made me laugh more. PlayStation gamers will troll Xbox gamers. Xbox gamers would troll PlayStation gamers and PC gamers, would just dump specs all over both PlayStation and Xbox gamers, claiming PC Master Race is just superior on all counts. However, even though I found it funny, I never cared for console/PC wars. Why? Because I’m a gamer, console, PC, I just want to play games, man. That’s it. From the Atari in the early 80’s to PC and almost every system in between and I’m still gaming. I’m a gamer and that’s all that matters. I play on what I play, you play on what you play, it’s all good.

I’m A Teach-Head, But I Get It

I’m also a tech head, meaning, I also build rigs. It’s something like to do. I’ve spoken to a few friends and tried to convince them to come over to PC. But I realize that not all the guys I use to game with are tech savvy. For them to make the move to PC, It’s just another lair of additional complications, headaches that they don’t need nor could care less for, I get it. Buying a gaming rig (PC) can be pretty expensive if you don’t know what you’re looking for.

PS Plus or Xbox Gold Subscription

When it came to PlayStation and Xbox, Xbox had a subscription model to game online, Xbox Gold. PlayStation 3 did not. However. The PS3 had the PS Plus and It was optional. The online multiplayer was not locked behind the PS Plus. When PS4 rolled around, I was aggravated that Sony locked the multiplayer behind the PS Plus instead of keeping it optional. I bought the PS4 anyways. The PS Plus subscription didn’t offer much of anything other than to play online multiplayer games and you get two free games a month. Great, didn’t really care. I quit paying for PS Plus and moved to PC. Now I enjoy playing my games without a subscription model preventing me from playing online.

What If

I don’t have and never had a problem gaming on console, I love playing on both console and PC. But, what if I had no idea about PC other than to turn it on, surf the web and that’s it. At this point, PlayStation and Xbox require a subscription to game online. So, I would need to look at which subscription offers more value for my money.

Backwards Compatibility Matters

Sony’s PlayStation

The problem I have with Sony’s PlayStation, it has zero backwards compatibility. Sure, now I can play your PS4 games on the PS5, but what about my PS3 games? Nope. In fact, Sony offer a separate subscription called PS Now, there you can play streamed PS3 games. Even if they were to combine both PS Plus and PS Now, PlayStation 4 and 5 are not backwards compatible. I have gaming rack full of PS3 and games that are just sitting there collecting dust because I have no way to play them. It makes no sense to me as to why I should pay for stream PS3 games that I already own! That just irks me.

Microsoft’s Xbox

The Xbox, on the other hand, does have backwards compatibility for older Xbox games and you get more features and options. For starters, The Xbox Series X has huge library of backwards compatible games dating back to Xbox 360. Is it 100% backwards compatible? No, you do have gaming title that are not backwards compatible or, maybe not just yet. All past Xbox console have backwards combability for past Xbox titles on some level. I remember playing my original Xbox games on the Xbox 360.

Xbox has come along way since then, yes, it continues to offer a subscription model to game online. It also offers a Game Pass for Xbox Players. If you don’t have the Xbox Pass, you can upgrade for $1.00 dollar. The Xbox Pass is bundled with Xbox Gold Live membership. The Xbox Pass has hundreds of titles you can play for free with your paid subscription and Microsoft continues to add games to the Xbox Pass.

In this case, I would be getter my money’s worth. Furthermore, I game on PC. Windows 10 comes with an Xbox App. Whatever games I buy form the Xbox Store, for example, Forza Horizon 4, I can download it on my PC as well for no additional charge. For me, I can bounce between console and PC. The only applies if the game is compatible with both PC and console. Lastly, with cross platform, if you’re on console, you can play with gamers on PC. Below, I’m going to show you a comparison between both Game Pass for PC and Xbox. if you just game on PC, then PC game Pass is ideal. However, if you play on both Xbox and PC Xbox App, then the Game Pass Ultimate is ideal.

In a Nutshell

By comparing both of what PlayStation and Xbox have to offer, I get a better deal going with Microsoft Xbox. Sufficed it to say, you have gamers that game on all three and even on Nintendo Switch. You also have those that are loyal to brand name and would never switch. That’s all well and good, but I’m looking for who can give me a better deal with tons of options. And by far, Microsoft Xbox has that better deal. Maybe sometime in the future, Sony can step up their game; I I would have to rethink my options. Until then, I recommend gaming on Xbox.
